1. Your smartphone

These days, the cameras of most Android and Apple phones and tablets can take amazing shots of your products, background, or services.

Due to image compression in the name of Core Web Vitals, the image below may not do it justice, but the photo was taken with an iPhone.

Do you believe that this photo was taken with an iPhone?

Some photos don’t require any additional editing if you have the right lighting and background. Many phones have extra features and effects. This is the easiest and fastest way to design images and videos for your Facebook and Instagram ads.

For tips on this free asset creation method, check out Shopify’s smartphone product photography guide.

It’s cheaper than buying expensive equipment, even if it means upgrading your phone. You’ll also be able do more with your phone.

2. 2.

Stock photos and videos are a great way to increase your social media design assets. Pixabay, Unsplash and Pexels offer unlimited photos and videos that you can download for free. Their search tools also make it easy for you to find and discover creative content based upon your visual requirements.

Unsplash, for example, divides its inventory into over 20 topics. You can filter down to the themes that relate to technology, business, work, and nature.

Although the videos and images are available for free, an account is required. Some of the assets can be purchased as paid subscriptions. To avoid any conflicts or infringements, ensure you read the license agreement and FAQ pages of the website.

If your competitors are using stock creatives, take a look at Facebook’s Ad Library to see what types of ads they are running so that you don’t use the same creatives in your ads.

This can also help you see how you can make your ads look and read better as the copy and creative complement one another.

3. Facebook Ad Templates

You might also consider other tools such as Shutterstock and Canva. These not only provide low-cost and free images but also offer social media design templates that can be used to create paid and organic assets.

Shutterstock costs $49.95 per month for one user. It provides access to over 350 million images, videos and music files. There are templates that you can use to create everything from Facebook Page covers to Instagram Stories content. The less you have to worry about proper specs and the easier it is to represent your brand in a good light on paid social, the better.

Canva also offers free access to templates you can use across your paid and organic social media efforts. You can upgrade to Canva Pro for $30 per month if you like what you see, but you also have access to Brand Kit which allows you to store your logo, brand colors and other information in one place. Access to more templates and images will be available.

4. Facebook’s built in creative tools

Facebook Ads Manager offers advertisers a number of free built-in tools and resources where you can easily develop creatives for your ads. It contains Facebook’s free stock images, as well as the Video Creation Kit which allows you to create video ads by uploading and animating images.

Subtle motion has been proven to grab users’ attention while they scroll through Instagram and Facebook, and make them stop and view your ad. Video Creation Kit offers several templates free of charge, including holiday marketing templates to promote special promotions. Users can also edit and resize their videos right within the platform. These templates allow you to add your logo and overlay text as well as add special effects that will stop thumbs from moving.

Facebook’s July 2019-September 2019 study found that motion is one of the most effective tools for capturing mobile viewers’ attention. Lightweight motion ads perform better than ads with still images, 75% of all the time.

Facebook has a number of options to help advertisers create video ads. Facebook has a few options in their “>Facebook Business App Store” to help advertisers create more video ads. They also recommend Canva as well as Shakr and Boosted and Vimeo.

5. 5. User-generated Content (UGC).

Do you have happy customers that share your products or services on their social channels? This content can be a great source of converting ad creativity. User-generated content (UGC) is when customers endorse your brand by tagging your business in images or videos they share with their network.

Before you use any UGC in your ads, be sure to get permission from that user and give them credit (and maybe send them a little something) unless you are using an influencer and your terms state otherwise.

UGC tends to drive more sales as consumers are more likely to trust a customer review than an ad from a brand. Maximize your efforts by encouraging UGC within your organic social community–encourage hashtag use for your brand so you can better filter through and find content to use, run contests, and get creative with it.

Apparel brand aerie does an excellent job promoting its #aeriereal hashtag and encouraging their fans to use it, which in turn, gets quite a bit of UGC content for them to use. A customer endorsement is the best.

6. 6.

Facebook’s Brand Collabs Manager tool allows advertisers to find relevant content from influencers and creators and work with them on their advertising campaigns. This is not yet available to everyone, so apply to join the program to see if your brand can get in.

Instagram advertisers have the option to use Instagram’s Branded Content Ads. This allows brands to convert organic posts from influencers and brands into ads. In order to use Instagram’s Branded Content Ads, advertisers must already have a partnership set up with the content creator.
