Magento 2.4 – Accelerate your business in today’s commerce landscape
We expected unprecedented digital transformation efforts to accelerate as we saw the commerce landscape shift rapidly at the start of the COVID-19 epidemic. McKinsey’s recent research shows that 96% have actually switched to eCommerce-based sales models. This shift has been a success on average with 65% saying that the new model of sales is more effective than the one they used before COVID-19. 80% say that the shifts will be sustained.
As the Adobe Digital Economy Index (DEI) shows, there has been a steady shift in shoppers’ behavior towards digital commerce. The eCommerce shopping volume has been consistently higher than the holiday shopping volumes in 2019 since April. June saw $73.2 billion in online spending, an increase of 76.2% over the previous year (YoY).
Adobe today released the latest Magento Commerce version and Magento Open Source, to give merchants the tools they need to seize new opportunities and plan for the future.
Purchase Approval Workflows
Businesses must be able to accommodate the different purchasing requirements and policies of their customers in order to quickly increase B2B commerce sales. Magento 2.4’s new approval workflow functionality allows B2B buyers to personalize their approval processes with a simple form. You can create approval rules based upon order value, SKU count, and shipping costs. Multiple approvers can be specified in rules and assigned to specific roles. A company might, for example, require that any purchase exceeding $5,000 be approved by its manager before it can be submitted.
The approval process is optimized for efficiency. Approvers are automatically notified of any reviews and can approve, reject or comment on purchase orders in their accounts. Buyers have full transparency and are notified at every stage of the buying process.
Streamline your B2B buying with Approval Workflows
Self-service approval workflows allow B2B sellers to deliver online orders quickly and conveniently while still maintaining traditional spending controls. This combination is ideal for attracting new customers and growing online sales.
We are excited to announce that Magento Commerce was named a top vendor in Paradigm’s B2B Midmarket Combine Report. Adobe was the only vendor to be awarded medals for its B2B eCommerce offering for the midmarket segment. It received medals for its roadmap, data driven reporting, analytics capabilities, and wide partner network. Download the complete report for more information.
B2B businesses must be able guide and support customers when they use new online account management and purchasing capabilities. This will help ease the transition to digital commerce. Merchants can now use the Seller Assisted Shopping functionality to increase customer engagement and provide exceptional customer service. Sales or customer service representatives can log in to their websites as customers from the Magento Admin. Reps can access the buyer’s experience to help them in many ways.
*Troubleshoot any aspect of the purchasing process. For example, you can help customers find the right product, set up a wishlist, requisition lists, or fix something that isn’t working as it should.
*Show the customer how to use custom functionality, which may not be possible in the storefront experience.
*Customers can save time by having orders and quotes created for them.
Provide exceptional customer service using Seller-Assisted Shopping
The Adobe DEI has seen a steady rise in BOPIS orders since March. This is maintaining a YoY growth rate of 130% in June. Implementing BOPIS fulfillment options can help businesses overcome local restrictions. This will encourage shoppers to return to your stores and increase average order values. Business Insider discovered that 85% of customers have made additional in-store purchases when they order online.
Merchants can quickly select which physical locations are eligible for customer pickup with In-Store Pick-Up in Inventory Management (formerly Multi-Source Inventory or MSI). Customers can find the nearest location and view important information such as hours of operation during checkout. With a simple click, store associates will notify customers when their orders are available for pick up. This can also be used to allow curbside pickup. This is a popular way for shoppers to pick up their orders and reduce health risks. These improvements are available in Magento Commerce as well as Magento Open Source.

Asset Management in the New Media Gallery
Merchants must quickly communicate their value to stand out among the crowd with all the new online shoppers. It can take time to create a content-driven experience for these customers. Magento Commerce and Magento Open Source are now more efficient with a rebuilt Media Gallery. This gallery performs up 30 times faster than the previous version and allows for stronger integration with Adobe Stock.
The Media Gallery has been completely rebuilt and reinvented. This saves time and money for creative stakeholders.
*You can easily manage images throughout your website with new image details. This includes how and where an image was used across pages, categories, products, or both.
*You can search and filter images faster with new image attributes. These include tags from Adobe Stock or licensing status.
*You can save time by using the Adobe Stock update that integrates the image licensing workflow and management workflow directly into the Media Gallery.

PWA Development Made Faster and Easier for Headless Users
The Forrester Wave report on B2C/B2B Commerce Suite was published in May. It ranked Adobe as a Leader in both. One of the calls outs was that “PWA Studio can lower the cost and complexity to adopt Progressive Web App (PWA), experiences.” This was a great endorsement of our approach and the direction in which we are moving with PWA development.
We have also released PWA Studio version 2.4 for Magento Commerce and Magento Open Source. This new version introduces Venia storefront experiences using Page Builder content types and a complete checkout and cart workflow to speed up implementations. To make it easier to modify and expand the capabilities of PWA Studio through custom development or apps in the Magento Marketplace, we’re also introducing an extensibility frame.
We are helping merchants, developers, and partners to adopt PWA Studio faster, easier and more economically to launch PWA storefronts using Magento Commerce and Magento Open Source. We are also expanding our support for Headless Commerce. Venia UI components are compatible with Adobe experience manager-powered storefronts. This allows for personalized customer journeys and commerce. Additionally, merchants have greater access to GraphQL APIs which enable them to create custom experiences for every digital touchpoint using their preferred front end development tool.
Platform Security, Quality and Performance
Despite all the changes in merchant behavior and shopper behavior, certain things have remained constant. The experience should be fast, secure, and reliable. This is what shoppers continue to expect and what merchants prioritize. Magento 2.4 has many enhancements that improve platform security, performance, and quality. Highlights include:
*We are securing Admin portal with 2.4 by requiring tw factor authentication (2FA) for all users. Find out moreImplementing 2FA in Magento.
